Two members of the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit within the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Kristin Pauley and Thomas Bedkowski, will discuss an action brought in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (“USAO-SDNY”) against Avraham Eisenberg for orchestrating an attack on an crypto asset trading platform, Mango Markets, in January 2023, by manipulating the MNGO token, a so-called governance token that was offered and sold as a security. Eisenberg was recently convicted following a 10-day jury trial in the USAO-SDNY of commodities fraud, commodities market manipulation, and wire fraud in connection with the same manipulation of Mango Markets.

Kristin M. Pauley is an Assistant Director for the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit within the Division of Enforcement in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Ms. Pauley began her career at the SEC in 2014 and has served as Senior Counsel in both the New York Regional Office and the Chicago Regional Office, as well as Counsel for the Director and Deputy Director for Enforcement. Before joining the SEC, she practiced law at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. Ms. Pauley began her career as a law clerk for the Honorable Dora L. Irizarry on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York from 2006 to 2007. She received her JD from Cornell Law School in 2006, an M.Sc. in Public Policy from the London School of Economics in 2003, and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Cornell University in 2002.

Tom Bedkowski is a Securities Compliance Examiner in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Enforcement Division’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit (CACU), where he has been since 2022. Tom is a member of the Data Science Group (DSG), a specialized team within the CACU, whose roles include crypto-asset tracing, blockchain analysis, data analytics and a multitude of quantitative functions, leveraging computer science and cutting-edge tools to help protect American investors. Tom comes from a background of nearly a decade in investigative and intelligence roles in Financial Crimes, Fraud and Compliance in both traditional banking and virtual asset service providers (VASP). Concurrently, Tom has served for nearly 20 years in the US Navy Reserve, including a deployment to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in 2010.
