The Greater Chicago Chapter is excited to welcome our guest speaker Lawrence P. Smith--a retired Massachusetts State Police Sergeant, Air Force veteran, Certified Fraud Examiner, and founder of STIRM Group Inc. He has served on federal task forces investigating fraud, identity crimes, and complex financial cases, including assignments with Homeland Security Investigations and the DEA.
He is the best-selling author of Six Degrees of Corruption – The Fleecing of a City, an investigative work examining municipal fraud and governance failure.
The book documents a multi-year investigation that uncovered forged police certifications, systemic fraud, and government obstruction — all backed by 526 verified public records and Homeland Security forensic validation. In essence, Six Degrees of Corruption is to municipal and state corruption what All the President’s Men was to federal corruption.
Beyond a true-crime exposé, it’s being developed as a cross-disciplinary textbook bridging fraud, public administration, law, journalism, and ethics.
He speaks nationally on ethics, institutional accountability, fraud prevention, and leadership responsibility, bringing direct experience and practical insight to every engagement. If you enjoy this presentation, he will be presenting “Beyond the Badge: Fraud, Failure, and the Illusion of Reform” at the Global Fraud Conference in July.
We will be administering 2 Hours Ethics Training CPE credits to attendees. Lunch will be provided, included in your registration fee. Lunch will be served at 11:30 with time for networking, and the presentation will begin at 12 noon.
